If your rom drive is installed on the secondary ide channel (or cable) by itself, you would have to check the settings for the secondary ide channel. Anyways a couple of problems... 1. While this doesn't seem to relate to the drives that are detected - by experimentation it was seen to be so. If you have PIO set, it could be bottlenecking your burn speeds, causing them to be unusually.
And then forget to revert to DMA mode. (I say "forget", but there are actually reasons that the device driver might decide to stay in PIO mode.) After some looking, I accidentally found a very obscure comment in the help files included with the new hard drive's diagnostic software; God must have been guiding me. Thank God for folks as knowledgeable as Leo Notenboom. Right-click the icon for the channel to which the device is connected, select Properties, and then click the Advanced Settings tab. 4. that doesn't sound to bad to me but i'm really dumb when it comes to computers. But what I wanted to highlight here was the channel that's displayed. The only software I can remember installing recently is IE7. You might have a look if the manufacturer distributes a driver for this model (and I mean first the manufacturer of the drive, then that of the computer).
