Running the network troubleshooter would resolve it by reseting the NIC card. Neither of these machine experience the same network connectivity issues as the Windows 7 machine. I resolved it by disabling power off for the network adapter during sleep. Of course if your school requires it, that's good enough reason. Also, I went under device manager and my network adapter is 'working properly' and I went to the Linksys website to check my router and it says my computer is 'connected

One more bit of information that I forgot to add was that I tried the adapter with a Windows 8 and Windows 7 system and they both worked. Go to device manager, find the NIC and view Power Management under properties. Get rid of the Windows Firewall and use something like the free ZoneAlarm. Check This Out This would remain broken until I manually went into the LAN Adapter properties, disabled the LAN, then re-enabled it.
