I've never had a Seagate fail me, and can still access files on some, as far back as Win 3 (I never throw away a good drive); however, I have, had, It kind of makes sense. I dont know. Google released some hard drive failure rate studies a couple years back based on failures in their server farms.

that's an interesting situation and i'm glad you found a fix for it.
